Good Friday

Worship

April 10, 2020

Gracious God, on this day we gather to remember the suffering and death of Jesus. He was despised and rejected, oppressed and afflicted, yet he was prepared to be wounded for our transgressions. We come overwhelmed by the depth of Jesus' love for us, and his commitment to defeat evil, even when that meant his own suffering and his own death. In his willingness to make us righteous, he poured himself out to death, even death on a cross, and so, in response to such love and sacrifice, we commit ourselves as his disciples to overcome evil with good, and suffering with wholeness. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Benediction

Romans 11:33, 36

English Standard Version

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.

Questions for Discussion & Meditation

  1. Has the truth of the Gospel grown dull in your heart?

  2. Is your heart stirred by the reality of God's love for sinful men?

  3. What aspect of the cross has the most impact on your spiritual walk?

  4. Do you continually exalt God for the work of reconciliation through Christ's death?

  5. Are you taking advantage of the peace that you have with God by trusting, depending on the Lord in all things, and drawing near to him?
